“A well-thought-out induction plan was created for me, which we went through step by step.”
How did you join Exccon?
I studied technical translation and language teaching in my home country Ukraine. After moving to Germany, I decided to also do a master's degree in computational linguistics with a minor in computer science. In this context, I attended a lecture on “IT Management”, which gave me the impetus to look for a job in this interesting area after my studies. And that's how I finally came to Exccon. This is about project and service management, i.e. the topics that inspired me so much during my studies. At the same time, it is also about imparting the associated knowledge as part of the training courses that exccon offers - which in turn creates a connection to my first pedagogical degree. Over time, I hope to gain enough practical experience to join the Exccon coaching staff.
How was your start in your new job?
I was lucky to start in October 2020, when there was just some easing of the corona related lock down. On my first two working days, I was immediately able to take part in a face-to-face training (ITIL® Foundation), where I got to know my first colleagues, including my future mentor Judith, who led the seminar. After the training, she took me by the hand and started with the training! A well-thought-out induction plan was created for me, which we went through step by step. The other colleagues also took a lot of time to present their topics to me. It was a good mix of practical tasks and theoretical explanations. I found them to be just right, I didn't feel overwhelmed at first, but I still quickly felt that I could make my contribution to day-to-day business.

How does the company manage to create a team spirit even though almost all employees are currently working from home due to corona?
I think it's great that you usually make video calls at Exccon. There are colleagues I've never met in person, but I can still easily imagine them, as we've already met through video calls. I also continue to meet colleagues from my team, who were often in the office before the second lock down, in our daily meetings, which take place with video about MS Teams. It is really good to “ratchet” from time to time and talk about topics that have nothing to do with work. This partly replaces the nice little breaks at the coffee machine and reminds us that work is not just about completing tasks, but also about working together and working as a team.
