You actually studied tourism — how did you end up in the IT sector?
I worked in the tourism industry for almost 10 years — a great industry if you want to travel a lot and experience foreign countries and are independent. Over time, my priorities changed and I set out to find a longer-term job that was better suited to a more settled life and the desire to start a family. It was simply luck that it then became the IT sector - or: the right job advertisement at the right time! I was happy to get a chance at Exccon as a career changer and have never regretted the step to this day!
How do you reconcile family and career? How does Exccon support you in this?
In the first years of my job at exccon, I worked full time in the office. After the birth of my two children, I was able to start working part-time again and work a lot from home. This is a great relief for me, as I have almost an hour's drive. I particularly appreciate the flexible working hours — a win-win situation because, on the one hand, I can make private appointments in the morning and work in the evening on the other hand, handle professional appointments flexibly and let them take place when it is best for the company. I divide my working time over the week in a way that makes the most sense for the company.
You were already with the company before it became exccon — what has changed for you?
I started at ncc Management Consulting GmbH, which at that time only had 3 employees. During my trial period, the “ncc” was purchased by Exccon. The move to Munich city center, a continuous increase in the number of employees and the merger with another company have significantly changed the way the company works together and work structures. My job description has also changed with the increasing size of the company - the original combined position of Education, Marketing, HR and Office Manager eventually became Education & Marketing Manager and then Marketing Manager for the entire company. exccon became, to my delight, more and more international, because if I'm missing one thing from the tourism industry, it's the international flair and contact with people from all sorts of countries around the world.
What was your personal challenge during the corona period?
Like all parents, we and our two children aged 3 and 5 faced the major challenges of reconciling work and family despite closed kindergartens. During this time, I was grateful for the great understanding that I received at exccon, both from colleagues and supervisors - I know from other parents that this is not necessarily a matter of course.
